Ruthin Scarecrow Trail 2011
Rules and Entry Details

The scarecrow can be stuffed with any filling; it does not have to be straw.

All scarecrows must be registered by the 9th May 2011 and will be given a competition number.

The scarecrow must be on display from May 16th to 21st inclusive during daylight hours, and must be easily visible from the road for those following the scarecrow trail.

The scarecrow must have a name and a description or caption next to him/her, so that people following the trail and using the trail sheets can correctly identify the scarecrow, and so the scarecrow can be assessed by the judges.

After registration, if you are unable to make the scarecrow, or it is damaged or removed, please continue to show your registration number with a notice saying "withdrawn" until the 21st May.

The scarecrow will be photographed, but photos will not go on the website until after the competition closes. This is to ensure participants follow the scarecrow trail using the trail sheets rather than viewing the website! Photographs will be published online when the results have been declared.

Independent judges will view all registered entries, deciding the prize winners in each category.

The scarecrow trail sheet will be available from 16th May, containing the location of all registered entries. It must be returned by 21st May 2011.

Advice to those entering scarecrows:

You may wish to take your scarecrow indoors at night to prevent damage etc.

Scarecrows can be positioned on a business building, an individuals home or garden, a school, care centre, hospital, public house, restaurant, pretty much anywhere as long as you have the owners permission!

Please consider all safety risks if you are going to hang / tie / mount your scarecrow in any way. Don't take any chances!

Entry fees:

Individuals and Schools £2 - Businesses or Organisations £10

Competition Categories:

1) Traditional Scarecrow.

The farmer's best friend. Straw hat, dungarees, and a winning smile make this traditional fellow the corn field's favourite.

2) Topical Past.

Depicting any past character, event or theme, and bringing yesteryear back to the streets of Ruthin. Look out for famous faces of the past, old fashioned constables and bygone traditions.

3) Topical Present.

Depicting and present character, event or theme. Will Ruthin's Hollywood hero, Rhys Ifans, make an appearance? Or will Barrack Obama be paying a visit to the Wynnstay Arms?

4) Groups.

From the Fab Four, to the even more fabulous Ruthin Rugby XV, the creators of these scarecrow groups have their work cut out. Are you brave enough for the challange?
